Muga silk, also called Royal Indian Silk, is the beautiful wild silk from the Antheraea Assamensis worm native to the Assam region of India. Traditionally only royalty was allowed to wear the golden fabric of Muga silk.
It is exceptionally durable and actually brightens as it is washed, increasing it's golden luster. Muga silk fabrics and Saris are some of the most expensive in the world.
This beautiful golden silk is prepared in top form and is ready to spin. Worsted spinning with a very high twist will produce a beautiful, lustrous yarn. It can also be added to novelty batts, or blended with other fibers. The golden shine it adds to fiber blends makes for true luxury. It can not be dyed, is stain resistant, and is naturally organic. This is fabulous as a single in plying while hand spinning (Z-twist) or in Weaving. Muga silk is a very high grade silk yarn which can not be produced in high quantity.
This lustrous fibre is ideal for use in spinning and in felting.
